Political scientist and lawyer Pedro Catrain says that the publication of the investigative report on the Figueroa Agosto case, and the leaking of the video with pornographic scenes featuring Jose David Figueroa Agosto and his lover Sobeida Felix are merely an attempt by the government to launder its image.
Yesterday the presidency press and public relations director Rafael Nunez announced that he would be launching a book: Figueroa Agosto: The Power of the Narco on Wednesday.
Catrain said that the book and the leaking of the video detracts from the seriousness and rigor of the investigations into the case and turns it into a fiction. "They know very well that there are high-ranking government and military officials involved in the Puerto Rican capo's network," he told 7dias.com.do
Moreover, lawyer Dario Garcia told the news site: "The truth is that the government is staging a bad taste media show to divert attention from the real culprits in this case and the book's publication by one of its highest-ranking officials is part of the media circus."
Lawyer Rafael Ariza, who represents Mary Pelaez, accused of complicity with Figueroa Agosto and money laundering, says that the investigation is very strange because it mentions a 10-month investigation when the case has only been in court for nine months.
