The presiding judge of the Judicial Office for Permanent Attention of the National District, Jose Alejandro Vargas, ordered retired National Police general Ricardo Rodriguez Taveras and Hector Ramirez Pinedo to be sent to Najayo Prison for three months as the case of shooting at Tony Roma's restaurant on Saturday is investigated. The two are accused of seriously wounding businessman Eliezer Salvador. The incident took place on Saturday in the middle of an argument about the collection of a RD$32 million debt in Tony Roma's restaurant on Sarasota Avenue. The two defendants face charges of violating articles 265 and 295 of the Criminal Code on criminal association and attempted homicide and voluntarily wounding another person. At first the general said he was not guilty, but during the course of the two-hour hearing he changed his plea and said that he had acted in self-defense.
