The president of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic has called on the government to comply with the General Electricity Law. Manuel Diez Cabral called for the replacement of the Electricity Superintendence Council that should last four years and is now running to six, as reported in Hoy.
"The board needs to be replaced by a new board that has been ratified by the Congress as established by the law, he said.
Furthermore, he said: "Unless politics is removed from decision making and the electricity sector is returned to legality, the management measures taken will not be enough and Dominicans will continue to be condemned to an inefficient electricity sector with an unsustainable subsidy that everyone pays from their own pocket and that castrates development, competitiveness and the opportunities for the country and all Dominicans.
