The Minister of Economy, Planning and Development and the vice-president of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) stated yesterday that they have proof that the electricity sector has become de-politicized. In response to concerns expressed by the Industrial Association, the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) and the National Organization of Commercial Enterprises (ONEC), Temistocles Montas said that one clear sign was the appointment of Celso Marranzini to head the CDEEE. "This is the first clear signal from President Leonel Fernandez and his administration of the eradication of politics in the electricity sector", he said after pointing out that the subsidy could not be eliminated in order to prevent switching off half the country. He added that what has to be done is to get the electricity sector fixed.
Celso Marranzini said that politics have been removed from the CDEEE, because he is not a politician, but he made it clear that there are politicians who are efficient and he mentioned several examples like Rafael Camilo, Juan Hernandez, Daniel Toribio and the late Miguel Cocco. He said that although more than one and a half million Dominicans do not pay for their electricity no one should have electricity if it is not paid for. However, the CDEEE is trying to collect.
Meanwhile, ANJE and ONEC said that there is a need to change the current board of the Superintendence of Electricity since its legitimate term has expired. The industrialists expressed the same view yesterday.
