The PRD has announced that it would oppose the President's proposal to use RD$20 billion of the workers' pension funds to stimulate economic growth through the mortgage markets. PRD president Miguel Vargas and the party's economic team told reporters that they would support all the popular organizations that have protested against this government economic proposal. They said: "It is time to openly fight a government that is moving towards totalitarianism, which could bring about untold social, economic and political consequences". They said that the proposal is only paving the way for more government debts and they added that it did not seem right to put RD$20 billion of the pension funds into the hands of what they describe as "an irresponsible government". They said that it was "too great a risk".
