HOMS Foundation does good work

Testimonies from several transplant recipients reflect the good work being done by the Foundation run by the Metropolitan Hospital of Santiago (HOMS). Especially noteworthy are these organ transplants, as part of a program launched in 2008 by nephrologist Eliana Dina. An important aspect of the program is the support from the insurance companies, which recognize that a transplant operation, while costly, is much less than the cost of dialysis over a period of time. The HOMS Foundation is now preparing to begin liver transplants as well. According to the president of the HOMS Human Solidarity Foundation, Liliana Fernandez, the goal is to try and expand the programs by obtaining backing from businesses and the general public. Besides transplants, the foundation also does complex and preventive surgeries as well as life-saving surgeries for the morbidly obese.
