Wadi Cano Acra, president of the Association of Industries of Herrera and Ignacio Mendez of the Federation of Industrial Associations are warning that the growing public insecurity could lead to capital flight and a loss of jobs. Both organizations told Hoy that the insecurity that affects all strata of society is not being adequately tackled.
They criticized the methods being used by the Police, in confronting crime with violent methods in violation of the law. They said that instead of reducing insecurity, these methods are increasing it.
They called for the development of a comprehensive plan that involves all sectors of society and centers on creating jobs and benefiting the poor.
"We need to change to an economic model based on better policies for distribution of wealth, because all those manifestations of violence have their origin in inequality, exclusion and unsatisfied needs," the business spokesmen told Hoy.
