Prosecutor General Radhames Jimenez recently visited Moscow, where he met with Russian Supreme Court president Vyacheslav M Lebedev. On the agenda was the case of an adopted Russian boy whose parents abandoned him in the DR. The adoptive parents have been detained in Russia on criminal charges. The Russian authorities have asked for cooperation in investigating the circumstances surrounding the child. The child is being looked after at a Dominican orphanage, but the DR authorities are against returning him to Russia because he has become more Dominican than Russian.
Jimenez's visit to Russia and the meeting with the Russian authorities comes at a time when Russian visitors to the country are increasing in number. Jimenez said that this has created a need for cooperation and information exchange between both judicial systems, as reported in Listin Diario.
