The Met Office says that temperatures will remain high all week. Despite the heat, rains are also forecast, mainly in the northwest, east, Cibao Valley and Central Mountain Range areas, caused by a system coming over from Puerto Rico. Highs of 33.7 are forecast in the east and northwest.
Weather forecasters are also tracking a low-pressure area in the Lesser Antilles that has a 70% possibility of becoming a tropical storm.
Local doctors interviewed in Hoy recommend increasing water intake in these hot and humid days, especially for preventing heart attacks, and for people who suffer from diabetes or hypertension. The doctors warned the public to take special care with children and seniors, especially those who may spend time outdoors.
