President Leonel Fernandez, Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia and Environment Minister Jaime David Fernandez have inaugurated the new five-floor building at the west side of the Mirador del Sur Park that will house the offices of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Environment. The building is located at the intersection of Av. Luperon and Calle Cayetano Germosen.
The 22,910-square meter building was under construction by the Office of Supervisor Engineers of the Presidency (OISOE). The premises include 240 parking spaces for vehicles and 28 for motorcycles.
The government says it cost RD$860 million, including RD$750 million for the building and RD$110 million in furnishing. A collection of 440 large format photos of the cosmos by National Geographic and Dominican photographers is on display.
The government describes it as the most modern government office building in the country, as reported in Diario Libre.
Last week, the Ministry of Tourism tendered the installation of the telecom system for their offices.
The construction was supervised by engineer Pedro Delgado Malagon, and was directed by Manuel Estrella, president of Acero Estrella, the contractor of the new offices.
On Tuesday, President Fernandez was scheduled to attend the inaugural of the new offices of the Ministry of Sports (Miderec) located inside the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
