Several days after the Listin Diario broke the story last week, the transport authorities announced they would be shutting down the short cut that public transport "conchos" had been taking through the Cristo Redentor Cemetery. The route was coming in handy now that major construction has slowed down traffic on the Duarte Highway.
The cemetery will now only allow private vehicles to enter the cemetery.
The newspaper also denounced the authorities' neglect of the cemetery.
The report in today's Listin Diario says that this neglect cannot be justified because of the revenues that the cemetery produces for the city municipality.
Writing in Listin Diario, Guarionex Rosa says that the municipal authorities had been re-elected for the next term, so any weak excuses about a change in administration could not be applied in this case.
