Taiwan's first lady Chow Mei-ching is scheduled to travel to Haiti and the Dominican Republic later this month to visit orphans and disadvantaged children who survived the devastating earthquake in Haiti in January, CNA reports.
Hank Du, the director of World Vision Taiwan, said Tuesday Chow would leave for Haiti and the Dominican Republic on 29 August as the honorary head of the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China and an ambassador for World Vision Taiwan.
The first lady will visit the post-disaster shelters and orphanages set up by the Taiwanese branch of the two organizations in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, which share the same landmass, said Du.
During her five-day trip, Chow will also meet six Haitian and Dominican children whom she and President Ma Ying-jeou have been sponsoring, he added.
