As reported in Hoy, the director general of Prisons, Retired Major General Manuel de Jesus Perez Sanchez said he is not concerned at all by the frequent escapes of inmates. He said that considering the levels of overcrowding in jail and lack of personnel, "not much happens". He made the comments when questioned about the escape of Kelfren Arturo Plasencia Valerio, accused of murdering the son of deputy Rafael Molina Lluberes, and Marcos Antonio Gomez (Colita) on Sunday. Perez said that the lack of security staff is the result of the 295% excess occupancy at the Najayo jail, as reported in Hoy. Plasencia was in jail while his case was being heard, and Gomez had been sentenced to 20 years for homicide.
