Sammy Dauhajre sent back to jail

Judge Jose Arturo Uribe Efres has ordered Sammy Dauhajre, accused of money laundering in the case against Puerto Rican drug capo Jose David Figueroa Agosto to be sent back to jail while his case is heard. He had been freed on 16 June. The judge said the decision was made on the grounds that he could choose to skip bail and the social impact. Uribe said that Dauhajre is accused of money laundering and serious damage to society, as reported in Hoy. Dauhajre had been released after posting RD$5 million bail and placing a property in guarantee. But the judge said that the decision would result in the elite being able to evade preventive custody, which would undermine the constitutional principle that all are equal under the law.
