The Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic and the International Bureau of Cultural Capitals have officially declared the seven cultural heritage treasures of Santo Domingo, the Cultural Capital of the Americas 2010. The treasures chosen by popular vote are the Columbus Palace (the Alcazar), the Cathedral, the Ozama Fort (Fortaleza Ozama), the Museum of the Royal Houses (Museo de lasCasas Reales), the Botanical Gardens, the Caribbean Sea Boulevard (Malecon) and the Palace of Fine Art of Santo Domingo. Minister of Culture Jose Rafael Lantigua and the president of the International Bureau of Cultural Capitals, Xavier Tudela delivered the appropriate certificates at a ceremony held yesterday. Runners up on the list were Chinatown, the Presidential Palace and Las Damas Street.
