A tremendous explosion at a propane distributor in the El Jobo section of Tamboril shook the Santiago area last night. The Ana Gas depot is thought to have blown up as a result of a leak from a tank that was being filled. The subsequent fire destroyed eight vehicles and injured at least seven people, including several firefighters. Fire departments from as far away as La Vega and Moca helped extinguish the blaze. Other units from Santiago and Licey al Medio came to the Tamboril unit's assistance.

Some witnesses said that the explosion was caused by a leak from the cylinder in a vehicle that was being filled up. Nonetheless, the chief of the Santiago Fire Department, Colonel Alexis Moscat, said that the real causes are under investigation.
