Army chief Major General Jose Ricardo Estrella Fernandez revealed yesterday that since taking up his post, 5,200 members of the army have been fired, including 54 who tested positive in anti-doping tests. As reported in Hoy, these included two officers, two women and one soldier who had taken part in the task force sent to Iraq. Estrella said that those with suspicious profiles are tested without previous notification. Estrella said that 45% of the armed forces' 25,600 members have undergone drugs testing. The doping tests cost RD$450 each.
He explained that 4,000 soldiers are now participating in the mixed patrols.
