President Leonel Fernandez has inaugurated the Ney Arias Lora Trauma Hospital, the first in the new Health City complex on Av. Charles de Gaulle on the east side of Santo Domingo. Ciudad de la Salud covers an area of 110,000 meters, of which 24,000 meters are for the construction of four hospitals.
The government reported that the hospital was built at a cost of more than US$38 has beds for 322 patients and 25 offices for doctors. It was built with loans taken on by the government. It provides hi-tech services such as nuclear magnetic resonance equipment. The hospital director is Felix Hernandez, who was responsible for the opening of the Juan Bosch Trauma Center on Duarte Highway.
Speaking at the inaugural event, Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez said that the Fernandez administration has built 25 hospitals nationwide since 2004.
The hospital was named after the late neurosurgery pioneer Dr. Ney Arias.
