Since the change of government on 16 August 2004 to date, the Fernandez government has authorized 14 increases in the earnings margin of gasoline station owners. According to a report in Diario Libre, in August 2004 the gas station owners received RD$7.32 on the sale of the gallon of premium unleaded gas. Today, they are earning RD$13.26, or an 81.1% increase in their profit margin. During this period, the price of premium gasoline has increased by 52.3%. In the case of regular unleaded gasoline, the profit margins have gone from RD$6.72 in 2004 to RD$12.10 at present, or an 80% increase. The price of regular gasoline has increased by 51%. Regarding diesel sales, Diario Libre reports that gas retailers' earnings have gone from RD$4.97 to RD$9.24 in two years, or an 86.1% increase. The price of diesel has increased by 35.5%.
