AES Dominicana has announced plans to build a new power natural gas-fired power plant with capacity to generate 34 megawatts, at a cost of US$15 million. AES president Fernando Rosa made the announcement. Celso Marranzini, executive vice president of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) said the construction is evidence of the confidence of investors in the new management at the CDEEE that supervises generation, is in charge of hydroelectric generation, transmission and oversees the power distribution companies.
Rosa said the new power plant will be located in Los Mina and would source natural gas using the same pipeline that supplies the Los Mina V and VI, property of Dominican Power Partners (AES Los Mina). The new power plant, which will be known as San Lorenzo I, is expected to go online in the second half of 2011.
