After the huge fire and explosion at a propane distributor in Tamboril, and then, less than 24 hours later, the enormous fire at the Bellon Hardware Store in Santiago, the explosion and fire of a transformer led to panic the neighborhood along Emiliano Tardiff Street in Santo Domingo's Evaristo Morales area, near a Tropigas distributor.
When local residents saw the flames from the transformer, they began running. However, the prompt action of the company's safety crews and a local fire station quickly put out the fire and calmed the residents.
Tropigas executives told reporters from Hoy newspaper that their equipment kept the fire from spreading to the propane distribution facility. Carlos Jose Marti told reporters that the company has 20 fire monitors, a 150,000-gallon cistern and a fire station onsite. An hour and a half after the explosion the LPG station was open and doing business, as reported in Hoy.
