President Leonel Fernandez has confirmed that Hector Valdez Albizu will continue at the helm of the Central Bank. Decree 429-10 establishes that Valdez and his deputy, Clarisa de la Rocha will continue in their posts. Decree 430-10 also confirmed the members of the Monetary Board. They are Hector Rizek, Ramon Nunez Ramirez, Cesar Nicolas Penson, Miguel Feris Iglesias, Manuel George Hazoury and Emilio de Luna Peguero.
The country's economic stability is one of the Fernandez administration's main achievements, largely attributed to the skills of Governor Valdez Albizu.
Valdez Albizu is a career official at the Central Bank, entering in 1970. He first served as governor of the Central Bank in August 1990-1994 under then President Joaquin Balaguer. He continued through 1996, and was then confirmed during President Fernandez's first term (1996-2000). He later returned to the Central Bank on 16 August 2004 to present.
He is an economics graduate (1971) from the UASD. In 1993-4 he was appointed general administrator of the government bank, Banco de Reservas but returned to the Central Bank shortly after.
