The Fernandez administration says it will end this year with a budgetary deficit of not more than RD$47 billion, as reported in Hoy. Economy, Planning and Development Minister Temistocles Montas said that the government had agreed on this with the International Monetary Fund. He challenged the PRD's claims that the government deficit in the first months of the year is RD$76.7 billion. He attributed the statement to "catastrophism" as predicted by economist Andy Dauhajre, president of the PRD's public policies commission. Interviewed by Pablo McKinney on his program, Of the Week, Montas said that the government needed to finish the year with a deficit no greater than 2.6% of the budget, or RD$47 billion. He said the government has met all its commitments up to June.
