With the help of the Armed Forces, the Armed Forces Social Security Institute (ISSFFAA), Civil Defense teams and the Economic Diners, the Ministry of Public Health has completed a program in the south western province of Bani. They claim it has succeeded in eliminating 100,000 breeding areas for mosquitoes that carry tropical illnesses such as malaria and dengue.
The service groups also implemented public health programs, seeing hundreds of patients while working in the communities of Salinas, Sabana Buey, Paya, Canasita and Bani. Their work consisted of removing solid waste, spraying breeding areas and placing bait for vermin. The ISSFFAA reported that their medical outreach program treated over one hundred pediatric cases, 58 gynecological patients, 142 patients with diverse ailments, 192 dental patients, 51 patients with ear infections, and 42 with cardiac issues.
