Senators say that the RD$50,000 a month wage increase for the 32 senators had already been administratively approved in the past legislature, and should now be implemented. They oppose Senate president Reynaldo Pared Perez's decision to postpone the increase following all the negative criticism in the press. The wage increase seemed to be the first topic on the agenda for the senators, 23 of whom were reelected, and who will now be in their posts for six years. All senators sworn in to the Senate on 16 August represent the ruling PLD party.
