The Department of Taxes announced the start of the three-month period to renew license plate stickers yesterday, 18 August. Renewals are open through 19 November. Vehicle owners who renew early can avoid long queues.
Stickers are available at savings and loans banks, and banks BDI, Ademi, BDA, Vimenca, Banco Federal, Las Americas, Multipago Expreso, Adopem and DGII offices in Las Terrenas, Pedernales, Jimani, Villa Vasquez, Samana and Sanchez for 268 offices where the renewals can be made.
The stickers can also be secured online at the DGII website at www.dgii.gov.do (http://www.dgii.gov.do) and a messenger will deliver the sticker to your house.
Germania Montas Yapur, acting director of the DGII, said that the government collects RD$1.3 billion from the license plate tax.
Vehicles manufactured through 2005 pay RD$1,200 and those manufactured after 2006 pay RD$2,200. She says there are 10% more vehicles this year.
After 19 November there is a penalty of RD$600 for late renewals, which can only be made at the DGII offices.
