Government official Hector Rodriguez Pimentel, described by the director of the Office of Prevention of Corruption (DPCA) Hotoniel Bonilla as "pathologically corrupt", is leading the multimillion-peso initiative to promote the reelection of President Leonel Fernandez. The 2010 Constitution prohibits his running again.
Rodriguez Pimentel is the director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD).
As reported in Diario Libre, the Corriente Balaguerista that promotes the candidacy of Fernandez in 2010 will open 35 offices nationwide to promote the pre-candidacy.
Rodriguez Pimentel told Diario Libre he is not behind the Cruzada por El Progreso, another well-funded movement to promote the Fernandez candidacy in 2012.
Rodriguez Pimentel was a close aide and promoter of President Leonel Fernandez winning in a first round vote in 2008.
