The 203 deputies were prompt in receiving the first of at least two full tax exemptions for luxury vehicles. There is no limit on the type of vehicle, cost or fuel consumption. The 32 senators will also receive the tax exemptions. The exemptions have been known to be sold on the market to dealers for RD$700,000-RD$800,000.
El Dia reports that another benefit is that the governmental Banco de Reservas will provide the legislators with low-interest loans for RD$3 million. At the same time, the Instituto de Prevencion Social del Legislador Dominicano, a pro-legislator governmental organization, is making another RD$6 million available in low-interest loans. The guarantee for these loans is the legislator's salary. The deputies receive RD$175,000 a month plus RD$45,000 in expenses, plus other benefits.
