It its Sunday edition, El Nacional newspaper focuses on the select group of a dozen men and women who have accompanied President Leonel Fernandez in his terms as President. Top on the list is Hector Valdez Albizu, the president's choice for governor of the Central Bank with 10 years under Fernandez. Another close collaborator is Marino Vinicio Castillo, appointed director of the National Council of Drugs in 1996, and as secretary of state without portfolio in 2004 and now heading the Ethics Commission.
Frank Rodriguez was appointed secretary of agriculture in 1996 and has served in several capacities, including his current post as director of the National Institute of Water Resources (Indrhi), and the Dominican Agrarian Institute.
Euclides Gutierrez Felix, who was appointed to the Corporation of State Enterprises (Corde) in 1996 and has served as Superintendent of Insurance for the last eight years.
Alejandrina German, who was appointed to the Higher Education Council (Cones) in 1996, followed by the Ministry of Education and now at the Ministry of Women.
Temistocles Montas who was administrator of the Public Electricity Corporation, Technical Secretary of the Presidency, and now Minister of Economy.
Cesar Pina Toribio, who has spent 10 years in the Fernandez team, is now legal advisor to the Presidency, after stints as prosecutor general and minister of the Presidency.
Diandino Pena, was administrator of the Presidency in 1996, and has served as Minister of Public Works and has been in charge of the Transport Reorganization Office, better known as the Metro Office since 2004.
Rafael Alburquerque who was secretary of labor in Fernandez's first government, has served as Vice President since 2004.
Daniel Toribio was secretary of finance in the first Fernandez government and has spent six years at the head of the Banco de Reservas.
Ligia Amada Melo was Secretary of Education in 1996, moved on to the Ministry of Higher Education.
Abel Rodriguez del Orbe was prosecutor general in 1996, and then legal consultant to the Presidency.
Jose Rafael Vargas was deputy secretary of Agriculture in 1996, then served as president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) since 2004 and is now the senator for Espaillat.
