The National Drug Control Department has announced the disbanding of an international drug trafficking network made up of Colombians, Americans, Cubans and Dominicans that operated with shipments in the east of the DR. Reportedly, several men and a woman captured on 19 August in Santo Domingo when trafficking 25 packages of cocaine in the parking lot of a fast food store are members of the gang. Those arrested are Colombians German Miguel Salgado Arroyo and Gabriel Leon Soriano, and Dominican Amanda Conde. Tirson Bueno de la Cruz, Rigoberto Valdez, Francisco Auriel Pachedo, Catalino Rodriguez and Rafael Antonio Molina were arrested with the packages of cocaine.
Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo said that Valdez and Pacheco had served sentences for drug trafficking in the US, and Bueno de la Cruz had served jail time in 1988, and Rodriguez has police records in 1994 and another in 2002, as reported in El Dia.
Listin Diario reports that Salgado Arroyo had laundered US$50 million in tourist destinations in the east of the DR. Major General Rolando Rosado said that they have been looking for Salgado Arroyo since last November, after he escaped in an operation when two Colombian pilots and a Venezuelan airplane were captured after landing in a rural area in Batey El Higo in La Altagracia province with a drug shipment. Reportedly, the drug ring operated in Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the US. The United States Southern Command notified the DR authorities of the plane after it departed from Venezuel, leading to the arrests.
