Two contestants from the island of Hispaniola have been making news at the Miss Universe Pageant taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. They are Eva Arias of the DR and Sarodj Bertin of Haiti. 24-year old Eva Arias is a professional model. She is 5'10 and was born in Moca. Sarodj Bertin is 24 years old and 5'9 tall. Although she was born in Port-au-Prince, she moved to Santo Domingo at the age of nine after her mother was murdered in Haiti. This is the first time in 22 years that a Haitian beauty is competing in the Miss Universe pageant. Her candidacy has the support of the Dominican international beauty contest team.
The pageant can be seen on Antena Latina, Channel 7 in Santo Domingo at 8pm (preshow) and 9pm contest.
