Police Chief calls in the troops

Police Chief Bernardo Santana Paez has issued a 72-hour time limit for all police force members to report for duty at their stations. He said that some generals had up to 20 policemen assigned to their personal service, and colonels on duty in private businesses. As the troops report for duty, they will be reassigned to patrol duties throughout the city. Speaking to a full Central Bank auditorium, the chief told his officers that regional commanders have to round up their personnel and explain Decree 306-06 to them in detail. Santana Paez was emphatic in his support of recent Presidential decrees aimed at reducing the crime rate.
