Upon arriving home in Las Charcas, Santiago at around 2am, 34-year old Edwin Armando Victoria Nunez fired shots that killed 90-year old Octavia Maria Reyes Martinez who had raised him. She died in her sleep. But he also injured his 34-year old wife Islandia Vargas Diaz and his own children 13-year old Herileidi and 7-year old Edwin. His wife was hospitalized at the Jose Maria Cabral y Baez public hospital and the children are at the Arturo Grullon Public Children's Hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.
Victoria Nunez is suspect of having been under the influence of drugs. The police recovered seven bullets from the scene. The reason for his wrath is unknown, but neighbors told the press that he was known to turn violent when under the influence of drugs.
Reportedly, he used a Smith and Wesson, caliber 9 milimeters, #TBE7761 that was registered at the Ministry of Interior & Police in the name of Olga Sobeida de Jesus Reyes Rodriguez, as reported in 7dias.com.do (http://7dias.com.do)
The Police arrested Victoria outside his house.
Diario Libre reported that one of Edwin's sisters, Kalenny Victoria, told the Police that her brother "is a drug addict and has always behaved violently."
When he entered the house, she said her brother said, "here comes the devil, get ready because I am going to kill you all." She said she was awake when her brother got home at 1am and began arguing with his wife Islandia whom he shot at three times and then went down to the first floor where he shot the grandmother and their two children.
Neighbors said the wife was a frequent victim of domestic violence.
The report on the killing in Listin Diario says that the children were saved because their dog woke them up. Reportedly, the man also injured the dog.
Spokesman for the Cibao Central division of the Police, Colonel Jesus Cordero Paredes said the killing occurred at around 2:30am.
