The Police are investigating the case of a Boca Chica-based Italian businessman who was reportedly kidnapped yesterday. His kidnappers are believed to be asking for US$1.5 million for his release.
As reported in El Nacional, 36-year old Federico Dalmaso was kidnapped at 10:03pm on Wednesday, when he arrived at his home in La Cachaza, in Andres, Boca Chica.
El Nacional speculates that Dalmaso could have been injured in the kidnapping because traces of blood and fired bullets were found.
El Nacional reported that he is married to a Dominican woman called Evelyn and owns a restaurant on Calle Duarte in Andres as well as other businesses in Boca Chica.
Boca Chica prosecutor Joselito Cuevas said that four men drove up in a Honda Charade wielding guns and wearing bulletproof jackets, claiming to be members of the National Drug Control Department. He said they also took a Mitsubishi Montero that belonged to Dalmaso. According to reports, several people tried to prevent the kidnapping, but were thwarted after the kidnappers shot into the air, as reported in Diario Libre.
Reportedly, Dalmaso's relatives and his wife, who is on vacation in Italy, received the ransom calls.
Cuevas said they are combing Boca Chica, Andres, La Caleta, Guayacanes, Juan Dolio and other eastern areas in the search for Dalmaso.
Diario Libre reported that officers from the National Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit had surrounded the kidnappers, but no further details were given.
Colonel Luoduin Suardi is directing investigations for the Police.
