Institutions of the Dominican Social Security System (SDSS) have received payments totaling RD$141.2 billion from 2002 until 31 July 2010, by way of contributions, according to the report from the Social Security Treasury (TSS).
Diario Libre reports that as of 31 July the TSS says that members of the SDSS had reached 3,867,367 since 2003 when it had 986,538 members, which represents an increase of 2,880,829 new members in seven years. The total population of the country is 9.9 million inhabitants, according to TSS data.
The amounts paid in, through the contributive regime, have been for old-age insurance, disability, and survivor's benefits, for work-related injuries, and for Family Health Insurance.
According to the data, the total amount transferred to the Pension Fund Administrators (AFPs) through personal accounts, voluntary contributions, life insurance and commission, totals RD$63.95 billion. Meanwhile, for old age, disability and survivor benefits (SVDS) from 2002 until July of this year, the total resources transferred exceed RD$87.7 billion. The resources transferred in the AFP contributive regime climbed to RD$1.552 billion in 2002 while eight years later, by July this year, they reached RD$9.6 billion, for an absolute increase of RD$8.025 billion.
Total accumulated payments for Occupational Risk Insurance reached RD$9.7 billion. They had paid RD$760.5 million in 2004, when it began, and by 31 July of this year there was an absolute increase of RD$8.94 billion. In turn, the accumulated payments by the Family Health Insurance climbed to RD$43.8 billion, which represents an absolute increase of RD$40.94 billion in relation to the first year that it was started, 2007, when it was RD$2.83 billion. The members of the SFS (a subsidized program) were 41,500 when the program began in 2003, and as of 31 July of this year there were 1,531,735. The authorities' target is to end this year with 1,730,749 members. The government payments into the SFS scheme are RD$10.308 billion.
