The ethics advisor to President Leonel Fernandez, lawyer Marino (Vincho) Castillo said that the number of officers of the Armed Forces and the Police, including generals, with strong ties to drug trafficking numbers 27, not 17, as reported in El Dia. He said the United States authorities have this list. Castillo is a former president of the National Council on Drugs.
Castillo lamented that the United States is not sharing this information with the Dominican government to make more effective the fight against drugs in the DR.
Castillo, a political ally to President Fernandez, is president of the National Commission of Ethics. He said the list was prepared by an intelligence analyst who worked at the US Embassy until 2007. Castillo made the statement on his "La Respuesta" TV show.
