The new Ney Arias Lora Trauma Hospital on Charles de Gaulle Avenue in Villa Mella received its first trauma patients yesterday. The hospital will mainly serve patients in the northern part of the Province of Santo Domingo. The first patient was a 53-year old man who suffered a fractured tibia after being struck by a motorcycle near the hospital.
Reporters said most of the patients on the first day were from Sabana Perdida and Villa Mella. The patients were treated while the formal opening day ceremony took place with the presence of Dr. Felix Hernandez and Deputy Minister of Public Health Dr. Nelson Rodriguez.
As reported in Diario Libre, medical work at the hospital is beginning gradually, with ambulatory care patients, including emergencies, outpatient consults, laboratory work and imaging already offering services.
Dr. Hernandez announced that they would be completing the hospital services with hospitalization, general surgery, dialysis and rehabilitation within 15 days.
The hospital is expected to relieve the Dario Contreras trauma center.
While a public hospital, the center is decentralized and will accept patients affiliated to the ARS health plans.
