The prosecutor of the Court of Appeals of Santiago, Vielka Calderon has denied that her son works in the Department of Customs in the province and that this was why she authorized the release on bail of three men accused of a multi-million-peso scam in the province.
She says she finds it hard to believe that Santiago prosecutor Jenny Berenice Reynoso made the statement that a son of hers could be investigated in connection with customs tax evasion estimated at RD$100 million. She speculated that the press had misinterpreted Reynoso because she says that the law penalizes statements that can affect the dignity and honor of others.
