The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) and the Ministry of Education have launched discussions aimed at creating a strategic alliance that will provide broadband access to the nation's public schools. Initially, access will be provided through educational television. The service providers will be the local telecommunication services. Education Minister Melanio Paredes visited David Perez Taveras at Indotel to discuss the projects. Using educators' jargon, Paredes said that the focus of the program was "to provide (children) in all of the nation's schools... with the new model of pedagogical intervention centered on the convergence of the media". One of the specific aims is to connect the schools with the Rural Broadband Connection program that Indotel is running. The education minister also wants the cable companies to provide educational content to the schools.
