The director of the Francisco Moscoso Puello Hospital, Roberto Lafontaine says that public hospital doctors have resisted complying with their side of the wage increase agreement and are not clocking in their work hours data into the biometric machines installed at public hospitals. The machines were installed to record doctors presence at work for the assigned hours and to ensure they do not just show up to collect their wages. Dr. Lafontaine said that only 72 of 680 professionals have registered with the new system.
Lafontaine called for the cooperation of the Dominican Medical Association (that groups public hospital doctors) in complying with the new system. He said that the new system enables hospitals to know who is on call, who should be on their rounds and where, who is seeing patients or carrying out medical procedures, who is on medical leave, and who is on educational leave.
