Former prosecutor Guillermo Moreno says that the Department for the Prevention of Corruption should be closed down and corruption cases investigated by the Prosecutor General office. He said that recent statements by DPCA director Hotoniel Bonilla demonstrate that the entity is dormant. "By closing it at least we reduce the cost to the government," he said. He said that the DPCA, instead of ensuring greater efficiency and autonomy in the struggle against corruption has become a mechanism to centralize it.
Last week, Bonilla said corruption had cost the country RD$104 billion in the past 10 years.
