The recent honeymoon on fuel prices ended abruptly this Friday when the Ministry of Industry and Commerce announced increases in the price of premium and regular gasoline and both varieties of diesel fuel. Liquid Petroleum Gas (propane) also increased in price. While the ministry argued that oil prices for October delivery had increased by US$1.83 a barrel on the New York Stock Market, the price of Sweet Texas Crude fell slightly to US$74.60 dollars a barrel, according to the latest macroeconomic data from the United States that seemed to reflect a stagnation in the recovery process. Premium gasoline will now sell for RD$160.60, an increase of RD$1.40, and regular gasoline will be RD$150.90, a 50? increase. Diesel fuel will be RD$131.70 for the 'regular' type and RD$137.00 for the premium variety. LPG is now selling at RD$78.39.
