Quadruplets Lenny Esther, Andreiny, Andrea and Andreina were born at the Los Minas Maternity Hospital at 8:30 on Saturday evening after a 35-week pregnancy. They each weighed between 3 and 4 pounds. As of now there are eating normally and one has "moderate breathing difficulties".
According to Diario Libre, Lenny Castro, 26, is a first-time mother. A little over a year ago she underwent a fertility treatment in Higuey after four years of marriage with Andres Inosanya, 22, but she now admits "I did not think it would be so effective".
They were certainly surprised after learning that there were three babies at first, and overwhelmed when less than a month ago they learned that there was a fourth.
Their surprise turned into worry because Inosanya lost his job at a wine company that ceased operations and Castro cannot go back to her previous job as a housekeeper. For this reason she is asking for help from the authorities and specifically from the First Lady's Office.
Diario Libre reports that on the same day, quintuplets who were born three months ago at the Metropolitan Hospital in Santiago (HOMS) were baptized. Axel Manuel, Alfredo Jose, Alexander Bautista, Lisbeth Masiel and Rachel Mercedes received the Holy Waters at the Santa Rita Church in Palmarejo, La Vega. The mother told El Caribe reporter Jose Caraballo that most of the promises made by the government were being kept. The only thing lacking is the construction of a house, because supposedly the engineer in charge of the job is assigned to another project.
