On Sunday, 19 September, the Ruins of San Francisco in Santo Domingo's Colonial City will come alive with an innovative fusion of jazz and merengue, with traditional 'perico ripiao' merengue sounds. Listen to the beats by El Prodigio, and jazz players as they mark the opening of the festival that seeks to pay homage to Manuel Rueda, Franklin Mieses Burgos, Rene del Risco, Pipe Faxas, Camilo Carrau, Silvano Lora, Jean Luis Jorge, Jose Ramirez Conde, Asdrubal Dominguez, Paul Giudicelli, Pedro Mir, Narcisazo, Amaury Villalba, Amin Abel Hasbun, Luis Dias, Manuel del Cabral, Fradique Lizardo, Maximo Aviles Blonda and Miguel Alfonseca. The opening starts at sunset at 6pm on the grounds of the old monastery.
