The representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in the DR, Manuel Labrado said yesterday that the local economy "is going pretty well". He agreed with Central Bank projections that 2010 would show a GDP growth of at least 7.5%. He described this as very good given the global economic situation.
Labrado says that the IDB and the Central Bank figures concur, commenting that the IDB was helping to finance advances in the energy sector strategic plan agreed on with President Fernandez. The IDB is financing the improvement in the transmission lines to the tune of US$40 million. The World Bank, the OPEC Fund and a counterpart contribution from the Dominican government bring the total made available for the energy plan to US$150 million, he said.
