Legendary Dominican composer and performer, Juan Luis Guerra received four nominations for the 11th annual Latin Grammy Awards. He was nominated in the categories of Album of the Year, Best Contemporary Tropical Album for his "A Son de Guerra" CD and in Best Tropical Song and Best Short Form Music Video for his "Bachata en Fukuoka". Other Dominicans receiving nominations are Johnny Ventura with his "Volvio la Navidad" CD in the Best Contemporary Tropical Album category, and Prince Royce for "Prince Royce" in that same category.
Dominican singer and composer Pavel Nunez made the Grammy Awards list for his first time with a nomination for an award in the Best Singer-Songwriter Album category for his "El Tiempo del Viento."
This is a first time nomination also for Prince Royce, a New Yorker son of Dominicans and it has occurred soon after the release of his first record on 2 March 2010, shortly after making the Billboard Tropical Charts. His music is described as a unique brand of bachata. His debut album has already been certified gold in the US and Puerto Rico according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album features mostly bachata fused with other contemporary rhythms like pop and rhythm and blues, all written by Royce himself.
The Latin Grammys are scheduled for 11 November at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live by Univision.
