Economy and Planning Minister Temistocles Montas says the government plans to issue US$500 million in sovereign bonds to finance the expected 2011 budget deficit. "As long as the government maintains its commitment with stability and this is supported by an agreement with the IMF (International Monetary Fund), the government will not have problems taking on international financing," he said, as reported in El Dia.
Montas said the government estimates that the budget deficit for next year will be around 1.6% of the Gross Domestic Product, which is lower than that of this year, which stands at 2.4%, or around RD$47 billion, according to the Ministry of Economy & Planning. This year the government placed US$750 on the foreign bond market.
Montas also reported the government took on US$32 million with the Korea Eximbank to modernize the migration control systems in the country.
