The head of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), Senen Caba, has criticized the firings of two doctors and a hospital director who were found to have acted improperly in a case where a woman died during childbirth at the Villa Mella Materno-Infantil Hospital last month. Caba said that the Public Health authorities had violated the established procedures. According to El Caribe, the authorities fired two doctors outright and severely admonished others for negligence in connection with the woman's death. According to other reports, the woman spent several hours in the waiting room without being attended to by doctors, despite requests from the nurses. Caba said that the doctors now fear for their lives and he added that over the last two months, seven doctors have been fired in several parts of the country.
