Farmer Neftaly Moreta Rosa (Cuqui) was released in Piedra Blanca (Bonao municipality) on Monday after a confrontation between Police and kidnappers. He was taken to his house in Monte La Jagua, Moca. The Police had established that the kidnappers had taken Moreta Rosa by mistake.
They were after the owner of the farm, Aguedo Salazar Paula, who is said to have links with drug trafficking. The Police learned that Moreta had rented a small portion of the farm for a small poultry project. Salazar is a native of San Francisco de Macoris, lives in Santiago and has a farm in Moca. He is thought to have knocked off some drugs in a fraudulent transaction with drug dealers who, in revenge, hired these hit men to kidnap him and ask for RD$15 million in ransom. Nevertheless, the hired thugs got the wrong guy, and were keeping Moreta Rosa as "life insurance" in order to pressure Salazar Paula so that he either turned himself in to the drug dealers or paid the ransom for the innocent victim.
