Today's edition of Listin Diario publishes a special report on the new phrases and words that are very much a part of the way young people talk. Bruno Rosario Candelier, president of the DR Academy of the Language, says that the catchy phrases are deforming the way Dominicans talk. He explains many of the phrases are part of popular reggaetton, hip hop or merengue songs. Many are shortened words, while others are totally new words only known here. Others are imported from the English language, such as rating, casting, party, down, dry clean, relax, email, baby show, etc. For a list of some of these words and their translations into Spanish, see www.listin.com.do/la-republica/2010/9/12/158665/Lenguaje-de-calle-cambia-forma-de-hablar-en-Republica-Dominicana (http://www.listin.com.do/la-republica/2010/9/12/158665/Lenguaje-de-calle-cambia-forma-de-hablar-en-Republica-Dominicana)
